Only the siding changes
New siding is one of the bigger checks you will write for your house, and the color is part of the contract before installation starts. The siding color visualizer changes only the main wall color. Trim, corner boards, window casings, the roof, the front door and the yard are locked, so you see the effect of the siding choice alone.
The texture stays too. Lap siding keeps its board lines, board-and-batten keeps its vertical battens, shakes keep their shadow lines. You see your house with a new color, not a flat drawing of it.
Vinyl, fiber cement or painted wood
Painted wood and primed fiber cement can be any color a paint store can mix, so every paint color here is available to you. Vinyl siding and pre-finished fiber cement come in each manufacturer's own color line, and those colors vary by maker. For vinyl, use the visualizer to narrow down the color family and lightness you want (for example "a mid green-gray" or "a deep charcoal"), then ask your installer to show you the closest colors in the product line you are buying.
- Lap siding: the most common; shows color evenly and reads true from the street.
- Board-and-batten: the vertical shadows make colors look a touch darker.
- Shakes and shingles: lots of texture and shadow; mid tones work best.
Before you sign
Bring your favorite render to the siding consultation. A clear picture of the result you want helps the installer suggest the right product color and avoids surprises when the first wall goes up. If you are only repainting the existing siding, take the copied paint code to the store and sample it on a sunny wall and a shaded wall first.
